 Nowadays Tinchuley is gaining popularity among the tourist as an offbeat tourist spot near Darjeeling. Tinchuley is a small village located 30 km (approx) from Darjeeling. It is 1.5 Hours drive from Darjeeling. The place is very calm and peaceful.  In the morning you can hear the chirping of various beautiful birds making the place more romantic.

SIGHTSEEING OF TINCHULEY

Though the place attracts me because of its serenity, there are 5 main points of attraction in this village:-

1. TINCHULEY MONASTERY

2. KANCHENJUNGA VIEWPOINT

3. GUMBADARA VIEWPOINT

4. ORANGE GARDEN

5. TEA GARDEN VISIT

TINCHULEY MONASTERY

After crossing the Gurung Guesthouse a soil road descends on the left side which leads towards the Tinchuley Monastery. It is a two-storied building where the prayer room is on the second floor. During their prayer time, you can hear the loud sounds of Buddhist drums, bells and chants coming from this building.  Long trees have surrounded this monastery and the flying prayer flags are strung along the walls and trees making the place very much divine.

 

KANCHENJUNGA VIEWPOINT

After passing by the Tinchuley Monastery and walking further 200m along the jungle you will reach the Kanchenjunga View Point. The viewpoint is a concrete platform and you have to climb a few stairs upwards. The place is like a rooftop with boundary walls along the 4 sides. I went there during sunset and got a chance to get the magnificent clear view of the Mt. Kanchenjunga. The place is opened for all the time and you can see the sunrise from here.

GUMBADARA VIEWPOINT

This viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the Teesta river and the entire Eastern Himalayan Range. You will get an awesome view of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Mt. Pandim from here. The presence of lush green tea garden adjacent to the place makes the atmosphere more remarkable here.

ORANGE GARDEN

The Orange Garden is 8 k.m. away from here and it is very well maintained orchard of the area named as Nirmals. A variety of juices, pickles and marmalades are produced by the family at their own factory.

TEA GARDEN VISIT

Tinchuley is surrounded by 6 tea gardens and the nearest one is the Rangli Rungliot Tea Garden. Some of the others are Teesta Valley Tea Garden, Gayle Bhanjan Tea Garden and Namring Tea Garden.

The 2 major attractions of Tinchuley i.e. Tinchuley Monastery and Kanchenjunga Viewpoint is 5 min walk from here. If you are interested then they will arrange a car for the nearby different sightseeing at a reasonable rate. They provide 4 meals i.e. Morning Tea, Breakfast, Lunch, Evening tea and Dinner @ Rs. 650 / person per day.

The taste is too good and one can avail unlimited fish or chicken during lunch or dinner. Children under 5 years need not pay anything. They even made chicken stew on our request for my children and they didn’t charge a single penny for it. They have different room categories according to the price and I am providing a table for your convenience.

HOW TO BOOK ROOM AT GURUNG GUEST HOUSE?

First of all, you have to send an email (Email Id of “GURUNG GUEST HOUSE” is given in my Ebook) mentioning the date of arrival, the number of rooms required and the category of room. He will reply you within 1 or 2 days mentioning whether your preferred category room is available or not. If it is available then he will provide you with his bank details to deposit at least 50% of the total amount as an advance. After the payment let him informed and your room will be booked as per your desired date.

NOTE: Bring your own towels and torchlight.

This homestay is just a 1.3 km away from the famous viewpoint Gumbadara. There is a beautiful tea garden in front of the property. The price of the double bedded room is Rs. 1000 / night + GST extra and of four bedded wooden room is Rs. 2000 / night +GST extra. The food cost is Rs. 550 / person per day which includes Breakfast, Lunch, Evening snacks and Dinner.

ADDITIONAL TIPS DURING TINCHULEY TRIP

This tip is helpful for those who will stay at Tinchuley. If you want to stay at Gurung Guest House or Abiraj Homestay and hire a car on your own from Darjeeling Town, the fare will be Rs. 1800 as I already mentioned above. Now here is the trick. Make negotiation with the driver beforehand that you will pay him a few bucks more and for that, he has to show you ORANGE GARDEN,  LOVERS’ POINT and LAMAHATTA GARDEN also known as Lamahatta F.P.C. Village Ecotourism, inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee. I had added these 3 points while going to Gurung Guest House and paid Rs. 2400 in total. If you take a Half Day Tour to see these points by staying at Tinchuley guest houses then you have to pay Rs. 1800. So this trick will save Rs. 1200.

LAMAHATTA VILLAGE ECO-TOURISM

On your way towards Tinchuley guest houses, this beautiful garden will be on your right side. There is an entry fee of Rs. 10 / head and free for children. The garden has 5 to 6 lush green small lawns with trimmed grasses, surrounded by shrubs. A narrow stony road connects the lawns and ascends upwards where there are few huts and watchtower. There are some sitting arrangements inside the huts and from the watchtower, you will get the full view of the garden as well as the surrounding locality. The place is surrounded with tall pine trees and colorful Buddhist prayer flags are fluttering at the backdrop of the garden. This makes the place more beautiful. A hike of nearly 25 min to the top of the garden will lead you to a water body. Surrounded by clouds, rays of light coming through the trees make this place awesome.

LOVERS’ POINT

After spending 1 hour at Lamahatta Garden advance towards Lovers’ Point which is just 20 min drive from here.  The meeting of the Rangeet river and Teesta river is clearly visible from this viewpoint. The water is turquoise blue and Teesta is flowing proudly in between the mountains on her two sides. Clear sky, blue water of Teesta, silent mountains with green forests on their chests, mild cold air flowing over the area will give you a pleasant feeling. There are few stalls selling pineapple, chips, cold drinks, mineral water, cakes and many more food items. If you feel hungry then you will get your fuel here.

ORANGE GARDEN

On your way back to Gurung Guest House there is Orange Garden of Nirmal where you can visit and see how juice is made from orange. After spending 45 min here now go to Gurung Guest House or Abiraj Homestay according to your plan.
